Some people wonder what is the difference between Advertising & Marketing? The definition of Advertising is the action of calling something to the attention of the public especially by paid announcement. Marketing is the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market and the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service. In society today both of those terms are being avoided and the reason for that is due to expenses. In this day and age the prices for such services can really put a hole in your pocket if you are not careful. The reason for that is because some of us advertise and market the wrong way. Let me explain,if you are in business you must know that in order to maintain a reputation for your business you must stay up to date, check out the market, get an general idea of what the people want instead of only providing what you feel you can only afford. When it comes to getting the word out instead of a standard business cards with just your company’s slogan try using bold and bright graphics something that will catch the people’s eye! Something that will describe your services even without reading your descriptions. How about posting your business in the local newspaper? You can even expand your business by posting in your states paper. Don’t limit yourself entirely to one area. Your services will be needed beyond reach. When it is time to market our businesses we cut cost by purchasing a few business cards for the time being. We also try and get it out by word of mouth which we all know can end up hurting us in the long run. When you are purchasing your supplies always get more than enough or get others to accommodate it, such as if you get 100 business cards which we all know may go suddenly have some brochures on hand in case you need to have something available for a new customer who may be in need of your services. You can also have a couple of flyer’s that you can post or leave in general stores by the checkout so someone can come by and pick up on their way out.. Having numerous of items can benefit you better than having just enough. Here are some ways that you can get your business out there as well. 1)Indulge in an fundraiser with your products or services. Having a fundraiser can get you into interacting with the people and getting an idea of what they seek. 2) Promote freebies.promoting freebies or samples of what you are selling will give the public a chance to sample your service and if they enjoy it most likely they will come back for more or even bring friends along. 3) Give discounts,by all means i understand you can’t be giving to many freebies so instead give coupons, half off, buy one get one free those are really great buys besides who can pass up the chance in getting two for the price of one! 4) Depending on what type of business you are in you can give free consultations for half a day or a certain day of the week. 5)Now this is one everyone will love, offering a concession stand with hot dogs, soda pop, barbecue and etc, it will really gain you a chance to network. It will gain you respect as well such as doing a good deed by offering free food to the public especially within this economy right now. You will meet all different kinds of people, and that will give you the ability to converse with them back and forth. There are more ways to advertise and market by just paper. As i stated before in one of my writings maintain a suggestion box for feedback. That will allow you to know what the public feels regarding your services and it will also give you an feel of what they desire as well. One thing that i notice is that everyone is in competition always remember even if you are rendering the same kind of services your work ethics will never be the same. Even if you are worried about losing profits because you and the company down the street promotes the same products all you have to do is get creative with your advertising and marketing. Do something different than usual. Using the same technique can get boring for you and your customers. Always remember change in a business is good it can have you come out on top, or have you put in the ground, but it is a step that you must be willing to make. So my advice to you business owners, enjoy what you are doing and have fun doing it! Be able to accept criticism, because taking that will only help you work your best, and working your best will always pay off in the end!
